Ki: Mrs. Saotome? I'm Tsubasa's Ki. I didn't expect to see you here! I've been interviewing some of the people involved in the Ranma story. Since you're his mother would you mind answering a few questions?
Nodoka: Ki? That's a cute name. Yes, I'm Ranma's mother, Nodoka Saotome. What do you know about my son?
Ki: (recalling what I'd heard of Mrs. Saotome, I decided to watch my step from there on in) Well, I know that he's been training since he was born practically. I know that you haven't seen him since he was around six. I know that he's engaged to Akane Tendo and they will get married when he has become a man, or something like that.
Nodoka: That's right, Ki! You've really put things all together, haven't you? Have you met Ranma?
Ki: Yes, I've met him. Not too long ago, either.
Nodoka: Is that so? (she sighs slightly)
Ki: What's wrong?
Nodoka: Well, I haven't seen Ranma since he was around six, it's true. Genma believed that seperation would be a harsh training experience for Ranma, though Genma had written me letters all the time updating me on progress. Then the letters stopped when they went to China. I've been rather worried for Ranma's sake. That's when I started visiting the Tendos.
Ki: Oh... their trip to China. Yes, well, I don't know much about that.
Nodoka: Did you see them before or after this trip?
Ki: Well, after, I guess.
Nodoka: Really? What did they tell you? Do you know why they haven't written to me? I suppose Ranma hasn't become a man yet.. (she seemed to look down saddly)
Ki: Become a man.. heh.. well.. I don't really know much about that.
Nodoka: I suppose a young girl like you wouldn't really know much about becoming a man, huh?
Ki: Well, I guess I haven't tried very hard.. but I'm sort of a gu..
Nabiki walked past the both of us on her way to school
Nabiki: Ahh.. Hello, Mrs. Saotome! We haven't seen you in a while. (she began to whisper to me alone) Stick around Ki, this could get quite interesting in a few minutes.
Ki: Thanks, Nabiki. That's wonderful.
Nabiki: Yes, you'll owe me for that information! I'll put it on your tab. Tata, you two.
Ki: Where were we, Mrs. Saotome? Sorry for that little interruption.
Nodoka: Oh, Nabiki is no bother. I was wondering why Genma stopped writing. How long ago was it you saw them?
Ki: They only mentioned some seppeku thing or something. It wasn't that long ago actually.
Nodoka: Oh. I see. Yes, well, under the conditions that Genma take Ranma from me at that early age, if he did not come through with his promise to make a man out of Ranma I would force both of them to kill themselves as a matter of honor and pride.
Ki: Wow. That is truly harsh. Would you honestly have them both kill themselves?
Nodoka: Yes. If my son is not a real man, then I believe being raised as he was is a complete failure. There is too much shame in that to be able to live with and I would not let either my husband or my son live with that.
Ki: Ouch. (I shouted the following loudly to be heard by the rest of the household) Well, I'll be seeing you Mrs. Saotome! Thanks for your time.
Nodoka: My, Ki, you're awefully loud sometimes. This has been my pleasure, though. It's good to hear that Ranma and Genma are still out there.
Ki: If there are any other questions that come in for you, I'll be sure to drop in later. Bye now.
(I heard a loud splash from within the training hall)
